2023 December 3: Sea to Sky (Lynn Creek)

Starting selfie (minus photographer)

15 hardy Loopers met at Inter River Park in North Vancouver under a steady rainfall.  Undeterred by the weather, the group posed for the obligatory starting selfie and then headed south through a residential area.  As we emerged to a street parallel to Highway #1, we observed the sound wall shielding the neighbourhood from highway noise.  The wall features bands of 20 different natural colours, representing local flora, fauna, and natural features.  Some of the bands are identified with the name of the feature they represent.

Our route next took us under Highway #1 and down a trail along the east side of Lynn Creek.  After a short distance we crossed the creek via the Bridgman Park Bridge, a new crossing which opened last January.  We continued down alongside the creek to Main Street, where we crossed back and took the Harbourview Park trail on the east side.

We plunged into a cavernous passage beneath the railway tracks and continued down the trail to the viewing platform where the creek discharged into the harbour.  Fog and mist made for poor viewing opportunities so after a brief stop we retraced our steps back up to Main Street.

After re-crossing Main Street we paused briefly at MEC for those wishing a bio-break.  At this point the rain let up and the weather improved as the day progressed.  We continued up the west side of Lynn Creek, passing the point where we had crossed.  At Bridgman Park we took advantage of the picnic tables to stop for the traditional snack/lunch break.

We then made our way under Highway #1 and continued up the west side to a bridge near our starting point which we crossed.  Continuing northward the trail followed the creek through a series of boardwalks, steadily climbing until we were high above the creek.  By now the sun had emerged and was glimpsed through the trees.  At the junction with the Diamond Trail we turned back to the south.

Emerging onto Lillooet Road we followed the road briefly and then passed through the North Vancouver Cemetery before returning to our starting point.  With the sun shining, we posed for a final selfie and then headed for afters.

The main group headed to GoodCo, where we were joined by Adrienne, Ralph, and Tina.  The coffee crowd convened at Belmondo Café.

PS. Careful observers should notice something slightly odd about this month’s entry.

Hmm, is the “oddity” the lack of pithy and delightful captions for each picture that we’ve come to expect from this blog? (Or is it that I can’t see them on my phone?)
But LOVED the blog despite this. Thx!
