2026 November 1: Lighthouse Park to Batchelor Bay

This month’s walk started out at the entrance to Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver under clear sunny skies.  It was a perfect Fall day.  17 Loopers assembled for the starting selfie before heading out across Marine Way and the railway, led this month by Dave.

We followed Keith Road up to Montiverdi Estates, a collection of luxury single-family homes built between 1969 and 1972.  The development was designed by architect Arthur Erickson and landscape architect Cornelia Oberlander.  A description can be found on the Arthur Erickson website.  For those looking to relocate, there is currently a home for sale in the complex for a mere $4,388,000.   You can check it out (at least for the moment) here.

After leaving Montiverdi we rejoined Keith Road and followed it up to the end, where a trail continued into the woods of Keith Park.  The trail climbed for a bit, until where we crossed a bridge.  The trail then descended steeply though several switchbacks.  It was a bit of a scramble compared to recent walks which have generally been pretty level.

We paused to regroup at the bottom, underneath the railroad bridge, before making our way down to Eagle Harbour where we paused for a snack break.

Our route then took us up Cranley Drive, from which a short uphill trail crossed the bottom of Nelson Creek before connecting to the Seaview Walk/Trans Canada Trail.  We stopped briefly to check out the train tunnel that runs under Horseshoe Bay.  (What is now Seaview Walk was the original railway right-of-way until the tunnel was dug in the 1970’s.)  We then headed west along the trail, stopping briefly to admire the view of Fisherman’s Cove and Eagle Island.

Upon reaching the Gleneagles Golf Club we decided we would carry on to Batchelor Bay before returning to the club for post hike refreshments.  This entailed walking up some city streets and then descending via stairs and stone steps to the bay.  We took some time to enjoy the view and the afternoon sunshine before retracing our steps.

We ended the day with refreshments at the golf club – a relaxing end to a perfect day.
