Eighteen Loopers plus a wonder dog met up in a residential section of Burquitlam, for a repeat of last May’s walk along Stoney Creek and the Brunette River. As noted in the blog post for the 2025 walk, we’ve walked parts of this route as far back as 2022 (see the post for that walk here), but this version of the route works quite well as a standalone loop, particularly on a hot day, since we walk alongside water for about half of the route, and significant stretches of the route are shaded.
Those who like to break things down into their component parts could consider this walk as consisting of four stages:
- from the starting point, walking south along the Stoney Creek Trail and under Lougheed Highway to the railway tracks at Government Street and Cariboo Road.
- east along the Central Valley Greenway, with the Brunette River to our right, to North Road, and a snack break at Hume Park.
- uphill from Hume Park, then into the woods following the old Interurban route west (the Brunette River unseen on our right) to the parking lot of Revive City Church, then across Highway 1, and following Cariboo Road to Government Street again.
- retracing our route from part 1, walking north along the Stoney Creek Trail.
I’ve attempted to group the photos (taken by Jon, Angela, Jean, and Michael) into four galleries, corresponding to these four stages. Bonus points (and a satisfying feeling of having eliminated a small pocket of disorder from the world) will be awarded to those who identify any photos which are incorrectly placed.

Afters were enjoyed in two places, according to the preferences of the imbibers: pub afters took place at the Lougheed Village Bar and Grill, which one participant described as “a bit of a blast from the past: pool tables, pinball machines, dart boards, projection TVs and a very old-time bar vibe.” Caffeinated afters took place on the patio outside BjornBar Bakery Burquitlam, where we were joined by a pair of Loopers who’d missed the walk (and Finn, the Wonder Dog). The most popular beverage seemed to be an iced latte (at BBBB) or a mug of cold beer (at LVB&G).
